May 2020 Ministry Update from Sarah Koontz

Since the beginning of January, we’ve had more than 4,000 new people join our Bible study community.

That is a 22% growth rate in our ministry over a period of just five months.

This means that we are delivering several thousand more Bible studies every single day and dealing with an unprecedented need for prayer, support, and technical services within our community.

During the same time-frame, our ministry also experienced a 22% decrease in giving, when compared to the first quarter of 2019.

Thankfully, we have a fiscally conservative Board of Directors and reserved funds in our savings account to continue to pay our staff in the short-term.

But, given the current state of our national economy and the financial uncertainty that many of our donors are facing, we expect this downward trend in giving to continue unless we take immediate action.

Therefore, we are launching an emergency fund drive to offset the deficit we are experiencing and sustain our non-profit ministry through the next several months.

During the month of May, we are boldly asking God to raise up a mighty force of 300 first-time donors who are willing to invest in the mission and vision of Living by Design Ministry in these uncertain financial times.

Will you be one of the three-hundred?

5 Ways To Support Living by Design in May

We are asking every member of our community to prayerfully consider the ways God might have you support our free Bible study ministry during this challenging time. We understand that many are unable to contribute financially right now, and we want you to know that your prayers, shares, and stories are essential elements of our overall fundraising strategy.

2020 Mug on a Mission Fundraiser: During the month of May, we will release a limited number of “Dwell in the Shadow of the Almighty” inspirational mugs. These mugs will sell for $30 + $5 S/H, and each mug sold will generate a $15 donation to our ministry. We only have 150 mugs to sell this year, and once they sell out, they are gone forever.  These mugs make excellent, encouraging gifts for quarantined friends and family. {This fundraiser has ended}

6/1/2020 Update: Thanks to the 136 donations we received during the month of May, we raised enough funds to bring our 2020 budget back into balance and enable us to continue paying a portion of staff salaries through the summer months.

Matching Fund Drive: During the month of May, all one-time donations will be doubled up to a total match of $5,000 $8,000. Also, all new monthly donations will be doubled for up to three months, or until the matching funds are exhausted. We are so grateful for our three ministry partners who were willing to offer such generous matching gifts during uncertain financial times. {Make a Donation}

6/1/2020 Update: Thank you to everyone who participated in our May Fundraiser! We are happy to announce that we exceeded our fundraising goals for the month and raised enough to exhaust the $8,000 offered in matching funds.

Giving by Design Project: During the month of May, we are partnering with Voice of the Martyrs to bring the light of God’s Word to hostile areas and restricted nations around the globe. Brave men and women from VOM are risking arrest, imprisonment, beatings and even death to get God’s Word into the hands of those who otherwise might never receive it. We are committed to giving a minimum of 10% of all funds received between May 1-31, 2020 to Voice of the Martyr’s Bible smuggling efforts. Our goal is to give enough to cover the cost of 100 Bibles (a $600 donation). If you’d like to give directly to this project, please make a note of it on your donation. {Learn More About Giving by Design}

6/1/2020 Update: Thanks to the generosity of our community, we were able to make a donation of $989 to VOM (enough to cover the cost of 165 Bibles).

31 Days of Prayer: During the month of May, we are issuing a call to prayer for our entire Bible study community. We have created a printable prayer calendar and challenge each member of our community to commit to daily prayer during these unprecedented times. Not only will we be asking you to pray for God’s continued provision for this ministry, but also for the global church. We will also be offering a weekly prayer call every Saturday at 4 pm MT for anyone who wishes to join us in prayer for our community, our country, and our world.{Sign Up Today}

Testimonial Drive: During the month of May, we are asking our Bible study participants to show their support of this ministry by sharing a testimonial online. This is a powerful way to offer social proof that our ministry is making a difference and help others see the value of what we provide. Many people won’t invest their time, talents, and treasures into an organization without first reading the impact stories of how the organization is accomplishing its mission. To help Living by Design Ministries in this way, consider leaving a review on Facebook or a testimonial at GreatNonProfits.org.

When God gave us a vision for this free Bible study ministry, He clearly directed us toward a community-supported ministry model.

We simply could not continue to provide our high-quality resources free of charge without the generous support of our donors, prayer warriors, and cheerleaders!

Without your prayers, your shares, and your donations—our ministry model doesn’t work.

And that is exactly as it should be: God’s people, working together, to accomplish God’s purposes here on earth.

Thank you for giving so we can continue to give!

“Remember this: The person who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and the person who sows generously will also reap generously. Each person should do as he has decided in his heart—not reluctantly or out of necessity, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make every grace overflow to you, so that in every way, always having everything you need, you may excel in every good work.”
