My Worthy of the Calling free online Bible study launches today and I am overwhelmed with gratitude for this glorious calling God has placed on my life and all He has done to make me worthy of it.
As it is with any writing project, things have not gone as I had planned.
This free online Bible study project quickly exploded into something beyond what I could have ever imagined, and I’ve been swimming with all my might to keep my head above the rapids ever since.
So today, for just a moment, I want to invite you to journey with me back to the beginning.
Because the first step of faithfulness is always the most difficult. It is the point at which we are most vulnerable.
Doubts swirl and inadequacies scream!
But if we can find the courage to dive into whatever it is God has called us to do, we will experience His abundant provision in the most powerful and humbling way.
Because God doesn’t meet us halfway. Ever!
He’s with us from beginning to end, supplying all we need to walk worthy of His calling on our life.
God’s work empowers our walk.
God’s Word reveals our worthiness.
God’s ways vanquish our worries.

I’ve been working on my first non-fiction book for the past year, and this spring as I was doing research for the book, I found myself returning to the book of Ephesians time and again.
I finally got the message and made a personal commitment to hang out in Ephesians for as long as it took to figure out what God was trying to teach me.
At first it was just for me, but it wasn’t long before I realized I just HAD TO write a Bible study on this book.
And I had to give it away for free. And I had to do it right away.
I knew it, deep in my soul—this was what God was calling me to do.
So I set aside my book project and started working on this free online Bible study.
It made no sense financially. It made no sense for my career. It made no sense for my family life.
But, if God was asking me to do it, well, He must simply know something I do not.
Will I trust God even when He makes no sense?
For me, writing a Bible study is like creating a beautiful piece of art.
The first few times I read a passage, I discover all I need to sketch out the key elements of the painting.
But it’s just a light pencil sketch, just a beginning….
Then I dig a bit deeper and learn all I can about the author and the audience.
This historical information helps me pick colors and paint the background of the scene.
Now that I’ve got my background painted, it’s time to study the original language and the original purpose of the book.
This is the part that often intimidates me, so I find someone trustworthy to journey alongside me.
An art instructor of sorts!
When I was working through the book of Ephesians, I asked my pastor for help and he shared several trustworthy resources with me.
These books and commentaries helped me to rightly divide the Word of God and kept my tendency to add a flourish of my own here and there in check.

I’ve sketched the scene, painted the background, and now I’m finally ready to paint the focal point of the scene.
This is when I take all I’ve learned (background, context, etc.) and let it all settle into my soul before asking myself this one question: What have I’ve learned that I just can’t not write about?
My answer to that question becomes my one thing, my key point, my main message.
For this free online Bible study of Ephesians it was this idea of worthiness.
I am worthy.
You are worthy.
We are worthy.
Because of what God has done for us, our worthiness in His sight is guaranteed!
It’s signed, sealed, and delivered.

We are worthy because God has made us worthy.
But, oh, how often I feel unworthy….
of God’s love.
of others’ love.
of my own love.
And I can’t possibly be the only person on the planet who struggles to align my feelings with what God says is true about me.
But Paul explains it all so beautifully in the book of Ephesians.
Maybe, if I can find a way to paint a portrait of this godly worthiness for my readers, my art will inspire them to dig deep into their Bible and learn how to walk in worthiness.
God, if that is what you want me to paint, then paint it I will. With every ounce of my being, I will create this piece of art for Your glory.
Do with it as you see fit!
