A Look Inside the JoyFULL Bible Study
Today, we want to give you a glimpse inside the JoyFULL Bible study and introduce you to the talented Christian creatives who contributed digital gifts to the study.
In the book of Philippians, the Apostle Paul shares the secret of unshakeable peace and unfathomable joy in every circumstance.
Hardship and suffering did not steal Paul’s joy because he was not looking to his circumstances for comfort, peace, and fulfillment—he was looking to Christ!
Christian joy is inexplicably linked with suffering and persecution. This divine joy is sourced in our assurance of God’s character and faith in God’s promises, rather than our circumstances. That is what makes joy distinctive and differentiates it from mere happiness.
Even though the theme of the book of Philippians is Christian joy, the subject of the book is Jesus Christ. In fact, Paul refers to Christ more than 50 times in just 104 verses.
- Chapter 1 teaches us to be Christ-centered, “Love the Lord your God (Phil 1:21).”
- Chapter 2 teaches us to be servant-hearted, “Love others as yourself (Phil 2:3).”
- Chapter 3 teaches us to be Heaven-focused, “My goal is the eternal prize (Phil 3:14).”
- Chapter 4 teaches us to be spiritually-empowered, “I can do all things (Phil 4:13).”
Paul teaches us that a passionate pursuit of Christ is our highest calling. The way we approach our suffering determines the level of sanctification we will experience upon this earth.
In this manual for joyful living, we will uncover the secret of Christian joy—Christ’s joy in us forevermore.
With our eyes fixed on Jesus Christ, our hearts filled with the Holy Spirit, and our minds focused on the Father’s promises, we will seek to understand and apply this rich biblical truth to our lives.

I don’t believe the Apostle Paul always “felt joyful” as he penned his letter to the church in Philippi.
He was under house arrest, separated from his supporters, and facing an uncertain future.
Even so, he found strength to write the most joyful book in the Bible.
Paul’s witness testifies to the truthfulness of Psalm 126:5, “Those who sow in tears will reap with shouts of joy.”
Paul did not hide his pain; he did not disregard his feelings. He simply chose to continue the work of Christ when his heart was sad and his spirit was close to breaking.
As he resolved to rejoice in every circumstance, he discovered that the act of rejoicing invites heavenly joy into our earthly pain.
The source of Paul’s joy was the absolute sovereignty of Almighty God.
It is the one thing on heaven and earth that will never change, will never fail, and will never fade!
