One Daughter’s Yellowbrick Journey Back Home

Like Dorothy, my own yellowbrick journey was proceeded by a devastating storm. A twister that ravaged my heart, destroyed my health, and scattered my dreams across the prairie. When the storm clouds rolled away, everything familiar and safe was gone. I was in a strange land, confused and disoriented by my surroundings. But as I walked my own yellowbrick road, I discovered I too possessed the power to find my way back home. | Christian Daughter | Christian Living | Inspiration and Faith | Family Relationships

Do you remember what Glinda the Good said to Dorothy at the end of Wizard of Oz?

Dorothy was begging Glinda to help her get back home and Glinda’s reply was, “You don’t need to be helped any longer. You’ve always had the power to get back to Kansas.”

At this point, Scarecrow chimes in and asks the Good Witch why she didn’t tell Dorothy this sooner.

A high-pitched laugh escapes Glinda’s lips before she replies that Dorothy wouldn’t have believed her because this was a lesson she had to learn for herself.

Truthfully, there are some lessons that can only be learned on the yellowbrick roads of life.

Roads that are fraught with danger, distraction, disappointment and, thankfully, a few devoted friends.

For me home is a restorative valley within walking distance of extended family.

A place where I can grow deep roots and spend my days exploring the beauty of God’s design.

For you, home might be something else altogether.  But the truth is, we are all on a yellowbrick journey, we are all searching for a place to call home.

I’m so glad I’ve found mine and I pray that my journey inspires your own in some way.

In this interview, I share about the health crisis that precipitated our decision to move to the country and radically changed the way our family does life together.

I open up about my relationship with my mother and share some of the struggles we’ve had and the restorative work God has done in our relationship.

I also share some of my best tips for balancing motherhood and work as well as a few of my favorite truths from God’s Word that have brought such freedom and victory in my life.

This is my yellowbrick journey.

I’m so happy to have found a friend in Katy. If you don’t already subscribe to her podcasts, I’d encourage you to do that now.  She’s interviewed many amazing women, including Sarah Blount and Niki Hardy.
